Westerns:

One of the great ones -- "High Noon" (1952) Gary Cooper and Lloyd Bridges.

I know, 'Terry with one of his ancient movies, where everyone in it is now dead.' :)

Total agreement.  Very controversial when released.  Called "Un-American" by John Wayne.  A beautiful theme song by Dmitri Tyomkin in "Don't Forsake Me My Darling".  Also interesting as being one of the few movies where the running time is almost identical to the story time.

not at all, f.e. those billy wilder movies are timeless, they seem totally fresh and up to date (y'know, like led zeppelin).

another masterpiece (semi-western, undefineable): "little big man", by arthur penn.

Bert, do you know it? if not, I'm pretty sure you'll like it.

it was on your TV! as a 2 show event.
I'm so taken in by it I had to take out another italiano one, so I got "criminal romance" , which had a beautifull actress from that good long movie.
of course this one wasn't too good, more influenced by those cheapo american movies...
.... which means you prolly saw it!!!!! :D
but the women in these italian movies, the women.... sigh.

cousin z,
skip the italian tv, go straight to the italian women.
i hear there are quite a few of them in italy :D .

when I told partner ram of the merits of this wonderous 6 hour long italian movie & italian movies in general,
he said: "yea, but they talk too much" (i can almost hear bert say the same thing).

btw, apropos that movie, i got hooked on a place there, which i hope to get to some time.
the town is called pietracamela, and it's in the apennines (?).
you been there z?

Never been there.

But i've been in Campotosto, that is about 25 km from there (35
km if you can't fly and have to use the roads ) and took a long
walk in the woods Mushroom-hunting.

It was really nice.

When you are in Campotosto, you can make another 20 km (on the road)
and get to Amatrice, where you'll certainly order some Bucatini all'Amatriciana:
