New Rocksilk Ecose RS60 - as effective as the old stuff?

Postby Max Dread » Fri Jan 28, 2011 9:46 pm

Hi all

Whilst at work today I received a delivery of Rocksilk RS60 for the new bass traps in my room. These will be in addition to my existing traps and reflectors.

The old RS60 I used was the standard sort which I have seen many other people use in this (and other) forums. This new stuff is different....... it is brown rather than yellow. It is still called RS60 Univseral slab, it is still made by Knauf, and has an R Value of 2.85 m2 k/W. But it has the additional name of Earthwool, and features Ecose technology (which is apparently safer). The product code for the new stuff is 2411331.

But the question is whether the brown stuff will be as effective in the studio......

Here's a link or two to some more info.:

Has anyone used this new brown Ecose RS60 or could anyone comment on its effectiveness?

One other point, the delivery men literally chucked them off the back of the lorry and put them in my shed (the missus was at home and saw them). The edges are quite biffed up as a result, making them more fluffy than rigid where the damage is. Is this likely to be problem? I'm cutting each slab into four triangles and stacking them as per superchunks. So the damaged parts will not be at the front but rather right at the back butting up against the corner where the two walls meet.....

Many thanks

I am not sure but looks like they merely changed the binder adhesive - so you are probably good to go. The riffed edges should not be a problem.

It reportedly performs the same as any other fiberglass product of similar density.
