Absorption Coefficient Octave Band Conversions

Hello All,

I recently ran into a dilemma while doing some comparative research between companies that offer competing acoustic plaster. In the comparison I was able to find the absorption coefficients based on octave and 1/3 octave bands. The problem that I have come across is that two of the companies offer octave band analysis for their absorption coefficients and the other offers 1/3 octave band information.

I would like to have all of the data in a consistent band analysis (preferably 1/3 octave band) for our comparison and I am having trouble converting between octave and 1/3 octave bands for the absorption coefficients.

Are the values for the 1/3 octave bands just averaged arithmetically or logarithmically to find each octave band? If not, then is anyone aware of how to accurately convert these values from octave to 1/3 octave bands and visa versa?

There is a convention for 1/3rd octave bands

maybe just eyeball the curve fitting using the conventions frequency points
