Subject: Vinyl limp mass
I am designing the acoustical isolation for turning part of my basement
into a multipurpose music room and I wondered if anyone on the list
could comment on the use of vinyl limp mass for additional isolation.
The wall I am designing now is the long exterior wall. It is 30 feet
long by 10 feet high and is one third poured in place concrete. The rest
of the wall is 2x4 frame with R13 fiberglas insulation. The price I have
been quoted for the vinyl is US$2.25 /sq. ft., so the vinyl adds about
US$500 to the cost for this one wall. Is it worth this? Is it still
worth it if I construct a second, frame false wall inside the real
exterior wall?
Thanks,
Thom Ness
