Subject: Suspended mic wire

We're in the process of replacing mic wiring at the church I attend. We
currently have 2 near coincident pairs of SM-81 mics suspended from near the
peak of a 50 ft ceiling. I'd appreciate any thoughts on what type of cable to
replace with.

If you're budget allows, I'd highly recommend getting some cable
reelers from Xedit. They allow you to remotely raise and lower a mic
line (I think we had about 50' of play in ours), and they use a
special low profile kevlar fiber cable that disappears from sight
lines. I installed ten of these at Jordan Hall in Boston, and two of
the cables supported a B&K stereo bar plus mics. They're expensive,
but well worth it I think. The president of the company is Claude
Karzmer (sp?); he's a really nice guy who'll build you what you need.
I don't have a url handy, but I know the company is in NY. If I find
more info I'll pass it along.

Mogami has a cable designed for suspending mics, its a quad design cable. A
stainless steel wire rope is built in to the cable for reinforcement. The part
# is 3177 and #3178 is stereo cable.
