Subject: Kevin Mucha's floor plan
I just took a look at Kevin Mucha's studio floor plan. Its located at:
http://www.studiotips.com/files/coerce1.gif
This is almost exactly a design I explored early on for my garage
studio. I decided against it because there wasn't any room for anyone
else to be comfortable in the control room, and I also had concerns
about reflections off the back walls. I decided a garage is too small
for a tracking room and a control room, so I'm going to go for one
larger room, an iso booth, and a machine room/sound lock.
Kevin, your needs might be different, and this shape might work for you.
Good Luck!
When I was considering dividing my garage into separate tracking and
control rooms, I was very concerned with spatial ergonomics. I took my
designs and measured out the dimensions inside my garage. I put strings
along the proposed walls at about 8 feet high. From the string I hung
strips of newspaper to make fake walls. I made chalk outlines on the
floor where all my gear would be placed. It was a lot easier than trying
to imagine what the space would be like from a paper or computer screen.
I'm going to upload my design to the studio tips website, because I have
a few questions too.
Thanks,
David
