My speaker stands - pics

Hello all,

I wanted to share my speaker stands with you. They are cheap, super sturdy, and look pretty cool. Of course, as you can see from the pics, I have some painting and filling (with sand) remaining. Having three points of contact means NO wobble. The extra bits cut at 45 degrees are to move the contact points out for more stability.

The main indregient here is 3.25 inch (OD) PVC and lots of glue. There are 3 felt tabs at the top and bottom contact points (for no other reason than to make sure only three points touch). The cement block and PVC is from Home Depot. There is a layer of cardboard between the monitor and block that will get replaced with something (dampener).

When you get them full of sand, try a slow sweep to see if you can find their resonance point.

Bob? Any predictions? The VP at my company says you should never ask a question in which you don't already know the answer (some management philosophy).

I am open to any enhancement ideas (or anything I've done plain wrong).

If those empty part don't cause disturbing 1/4 wave effects its a design you could sell.
use those short part for plants ...

I wasn't being funny.
I find this a nice design.
If you allow something on top to fill this stand with sand or whatever. That can be a pro design also suitable for steel, bronze, chrome or whatever constructions. Nice plates in stone on top and bottom .....

Practical problem:
Thos 6 open tubes are 1/4 resonators.
The top ones you could solve by putting in pressed foam or something (invisible anyhow).

The bottom ones are more of a problem.  You must do something with them.
Now it are AND dust collectors AND 1/4 wave resonators.

Thanks for your input. I'm glad you like the overall design.

I think it is time I learned how to fabricate with fiberglass. I really can't see another way to close everything up and have a really nice finish. I always find these car restoration shows on TV where they build custom boxes and such for audio equipment. A friend of mine at work has some experience here.

I'll continue this thread when I have made some progress.
