Can you describe the treatments/finishes for us?  Looks like some acoustic baffles on the ceiling, is that right?  How are they made?

the baffles are mainly for defusing the sound in the mix position, however they will proabably work really good for bass traping also.

i sent more pics on baffles.

they are framed in sections as you can see, stuffed with fiberglass insulation and covered with 2 layers of 5/8".

thanks for all the great compliments, i worked my ass off on this , so far so good. when you have a full time day job and your only one guy doing the work, well you, know it's time consuming. also had  help one day a week from my brother on stuff i couldn't lift by myself.

also thanks to all of you out there for your information and knowledge on studio design. you guys saved me thousands of dollars and prevented my from making big mistakes in wall design and  in several other areas. without this site my project would not have been near this successful.

really looking forward to pushing the record button with 2" 24 track analog and protools locked up together.

   Are your bafles over the mix position open on the front edges as to direct sound into the ceiling?,  or are they all sealed up?

   Where did you get the inspiration to do that unusual design?

    Awesome design and construction btw!  looks so well planned and thought out!

no, the baffles are completly sealed with 2 layers of 5/8" sheerock. they are mainly designed for defusing the sound from the contol room monitors but they will probably work for bass traping also. they were designed by a good friend of mine that has designed sereral studios. there are several studios in manhatten, new york that use this design and i agreed with him that instead of leaving the ceiling flat and adding acoustical treatmentsafter the fact that design this would be much more affective with dealing with scattering the sound, dealing with wow and flutter in the mix positon and the control room. however i think most people would not do this because of the amont of labor involved.

the first baffle closest to the control room window will have 2" 703 on the entire face that faces the engineer and the rest will be left alone. assuming there aren't any problems when i get to that stage in tweaking the room. i am hoping for a really good result. i have run my room dimensions through i think it's bob's calculator program and it seems to be favorable so i have my fingers crossed and hopfully the control room with sound real good.

It looks very promising. Exciting, actually, and inspiring, considering you did practically all of that alone when you could find the time. It's amazing what you can do when you persevere in pursuing your dream.

I can easily imagine your trigger finger twitching to hit that big red Record button!

yeah sometimesi surprise myself. all i can say is no.1 i am single and don't have anybody bugging me or spending my money.

basically my schedule the past 2 years (thats just about the time i took over the building shell after my contractor was done, 2 years ago march). i go to work, i work for an engineering firm, work 8 hours without doing anything a go straight to the studio and start working till i have to make dinner, eat and go to bed. do that for 5 days a week and work all weekend. i have doing that for 2 years and bing bang boom her i am. it is kind of amazing what you can get done when you put your mind to it. the hard part is staying focused and just keep to you schedule. sometimes you get discuraged but i just feel this is what i am all about and i rather do this than anything else and someday i will quit my job and do this until a die. i am good with that. at least i will be doing something i have always loved and fairly good at ,instead of working on a job i don't like at all.

Check out these diffusers. They will be mounted hanging from the center beam down about a foot turned upside down from how you view them in the pictures. I kind of thought these were slick. I made them out of oak door skins. Wetted the skin down and built a frame. Bent them in and fastened them. They will be filled with fluffly insulation. They are 4.5' x 6' long . There will be three of them back to back extending about 18' down the beam on the ceiling. I think not only will they make good diffusers but with the insulation area they will work as a pretty good bass trap as well. The beauty of it is I spent a total of 150 dollars for each one installed. That's hard to beat.

The console has reached it's final resting place in the control room 48 channel Neve.  We are in the process of wiring it up and replacing caps as we go. Needless to say I am getting pretty excited.

Hi Jeff,
sorry to be a spoil sport, but such a design would worry me.
it feels to be "busy" and overly diffusive, and those ceiling things seem unpredictable (if so, I woulda done them with some absorption too. integrated with the diffusion. how? dunno).
and this diffusive stuff seems to close and crowded to listerning position.
from the pic, the list post also seems too close to the front wall.
these are just worries, I honestly hope it turns out the best.
I hope you also have some absorption on those angled front walls.
in such a thing as yours, I would have liked to test and hear before hand so there won't be unwanted surprises.

don't panic, the big diffusers in the live room will be filled with fluffy insulation. they are not hollow. they should be fine. as far as the ceiling in the control room goes all those angles are completly filled with insulation and the design was taken from sereval studios like that in new york studios.

the angled walls in the contorl room in front of the console are completly filled with rockwoll and when we get to testing if i need absorbtion on them we will address that when the time comes.

but other than that i  appreciate your concern.

finished the live room flooring. 3/4" x 3.5" wide solid maple flooring. the live room is really live. needs to tamed down but everything seems to be smooth and even, hoping it will sound great when i get my acoustic panels placed where they need to be.
